Day 20 of the beer advent calendar brings us the Railway City Brewing "Black Coal Stout"
6% alcohol, 46 IBU
Opaque black with a thick, creamy medium brown head.
Aromas of coffee, chocolate, malt, and actual charcoal make this quite interesting. The taste is what you'd expect, mirroring the aromas nicely. It has a nice creaminess and a surprisingly clean finish for such an extreme taste. Perhaps a nice pairing for this would be smoked cheddar cheese, or something harder, or dishes with a bit of chipotle.
